What is the IElTS Test ?

The IELTS score is widely accepted by over 10,000 institutions worldwide, especially in Commonwealth countries like the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It’s also used for student visa applications and immigration processes. Additionally, over 3,000 universities in the US accept IELTS scores. In Thailand, IELTS results can be submitted for TCAS Round 1 for Thai-language programs and for postgraduate admissions both domestically and abroad.

IELTS Scoring: Band Scores from 0–9

The IELTS scoring ranges from 0 to 9, evaluating from beginner to expert English proficiency across all four skills: Writing, Listening, Reading, and Speaking.

Most international study applicants take the Academic Module, while for studying in the UK specifically, IELTS for UKVI is recommended.

For those aiming to work or study in the UK, Canada, or Australia, obtaining an IELTS score in Thailand offers the fastest route to submitting scores promptly

Types of IELTS

The test evaluates four skills—Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing—and is available in two versions:

    1. IELTS Academic – for higher education in Thailand and abroad.
    2. IELTS General Training – for vocational training, immigration, or lower-level programs, with simpler Reading and Writing sections. Reading and Writing differ between the two, while Listening and Speaking remain largely the same.

IELTS Test Format

    1. Listening – 40 questions in 30 minutes, plus 10 minutes to transfer answers. Formats include multiple choice, matching, labelling diagrams, form completion, flow-chart completion, and short answers.
    2. Reading – 3 passages (40 questions) in 60 minutes. Formats include multiple choice, True/False/Not Given, sentence completion, flow-chart, diagram, and short answers.
    3. Writing – 2 tasks in 60 minutes. Task 2 carries double the weight of Task 1. Task 1 should take about 20 minutes, leaving 40 minutes for Task 2.
    4. Speaking – 3 parts lasting about 11–15 minutes. Evaluates fluency, grammar, accuracy, and pronunciation via different prompts.

Choosing a Quality IELTS Preparation Center

New Cambridge highlights key factors for selecting an IELTS institute:

    • Experience: Established longer institutes are more trustworthy and experienced.
    • Teacher Quality: If your English foundation is weak, local Thai teachers may be better; if strong, native speakers can improve fluency and accuracy faster.
    • Course Content: Beginners should start with Foundation Courses to become familiar with the test format. Some institutes also offer supplementary activities outside the classroom.
    • Price: While important, it should be a secondary consideration—results matter most.
    • Onsite Study-Abroad Counseling Center: Selecting an institute with an affiliated study-abroad guidance center helps you streamline everything in one place.
