Frequently Asked Questions

What does the IELTS test assess, and what can it be used for?

The IELTS exam evaluates four key English skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Each skill contributes to your overall band score, which ranges from 1 (non-user) to 9 (expert).
There are two versions of the test:

  • IELTS Academic – for those planning to pursue further studies.
  • IELTS General Training – for those going to work or use English in daily life.
Where can I register for the IELTS?

There are two ways to register:

  1. Via IDP – Contact them directly (IDP Thailand) at the phone number 02-638-3111 (extensions 111 or 112)
  2. At New Cambridge Institute located on the 4th floor of CP Tower, Silom – Call 095-915-6699 or fill out the registration form through the website’s “IELTS” (Register) link.
What documents do I need to apply for the IELTS?

You must submit:

  1. The completed IELTS application form in capital letters.
  2. A copy of either your national ID card or passport, along with the original for verification.
    • Applicants under 15 years old may submit a school ID card copy instead.
  3. Payment of the test fee at the customer service counter.
Ensure all documents are correct and complete on the day of application; incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
How does New Cambridge differ from other institutes?

New Cambridge employs a Learner Autonomy Teaching Style, focusing on cultivating students’ self-motivation and consistent learning habits—under the motto “Practice makes perfect”.
All teachers are native speakers, hold at least a bachelor’s degree, possess recognized teaching certifications (e.g., RSA, Trinity), and have teaching experience both in Thailand and abroad. This learning environment closely resembles an international classroom setting and helps build language skills as well as a lifelong love of learning.

I already have an IELTS score. Can I use it instead of taking a placement test?

Yes—if your IELTS score is within two years of the test date, you can submit it for placement and you do not need to take a separate assessment.
