4 Things You Must Know Before Taking the Digital SAT

Planning to study at an international university, either in the UK, abroad, or in Thailand, and taking the Digital SAT this year? We’ll walk you through the four essential facts you need to know before sitting the Digital SAT exam!

1. Know the Exam Structure and Timing

The Digital SAT comprises two main sections: SAT Reading & Writing and SAT Math. Each subject features distinct question types and consists of two separate modules.

Crucially, the College Board has revised the format, shortening the total testing time. The exam now takes 2 hours and 14 minutes, down from the previous 3 hours.

Here is the breakdown for each part:

Subject Total Time Time per Module
Evidence-Based Reading & Writing 1 hour 4 minutes 32 minutes per module
Mathematics 1 hour 10 minutes 35 minutes per module

Therefore, you must practice frequently to get comfortable with the time constraints and plan your approach for each module.

2. Get Familiar with the Bluebook Application

The College Board developed the Bluebook application specifically for the Digital SAT. You must download and install it on the electronic device you plan to use for the test. The program contains realistic sample tests, including a Test Preview and a full SAT feature, allowing you to practice in a true-to-life testing environment.

3. Prepare Your Equipment and Charge it Fully

The Digital SAT requires an electronic device. You can use your personal laptop or tablet, provided it meets the specific version requirements:

    • Laptops/Tablets: Must be running Windows 10 or later.
    • MacBooks: Must be running macOS 11.4 or later.
    • iPads: Must be running iPadOS 13.4 or later.

If you don’t have a suitable device, you can submit a request to borrow one from the College Board centre before the test day. For a stress-free and optimal performance, ensure your device is prepared and fully charged before you enter the testing centre.

4. What to Bring on Test Day (Don’t Forget!)

This is critical: forgetting any of these items could mean you miss that exam session entirely.

    • Your National ID Card or Passport
    • Your Admission Ticket (remember to print it from the College Board website)
    • An analogue wrist watch only (a watch with hands/a dial) – digital watches are strictly prohibited.
